Before becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist, I spent more than 30 years in the corporate world leading teams, developing people, and helping individuals navigate challenging seasons in their professional and personal lives. Along the way, I learned something important: people are rarely struggling because they lack the ability to move forward. More often, they are carrying experiences, stories, and relationship patterns that make it difficult to see a different way.
Like many of the clients I work with, I have experienced loss, major life transitions, career and family changes, and relationship struggles. One of the most significant was nearly losing my marriage. There was a time when my husband and I questioned whether we could continue moving forward together. Through hard work, difficult conversations, and a willingness to understand the patterns keeping us disconnected, we were able to create the marriage we truly wanted rather than settling for the one we had. That experience profoundly shaped the way I understand relationships and the possibility for meaningful change.
As the wife and mother of first responders, I also understand the unique demands public safety careers can place on individuals, couples, and families. This lived experience, combined with my clinical training and research, informs my work with first responder families and my understanding of the complex relationship between service, identity, stress, and connection at home.
My approach to therapy is relational, systemic, and personal. Whether I am working with an individual, couple, or family, I help clients understand the patterns keeping them stuck, explore what is happening beneath those patterns, and develop new ways of relating to themselves and to the people who matter most.
At Legacy Therapeutics, I provide psychotherapy services for individuals, couples, and families navigating relationship challenges, life transitions, stress, loss, and other experiences that can leave us feeling disconnected or stuck. I have a particular passion for couples work and supporting first responders and their families, while welcoming clients from all walks of life. My goal is to create a space that feels genuine, collaborative, and supportive where clients can better understand themselves and their relationships, strengthen connection, and create meaningful change that lasts beyond the therapy room.
Serving others has been the foundation of my career. I spent 14 years in law enforcement while also dedicating my career to the fire service, where after 30 years, I continue to serve today. Throughout those years, I've experienced firsthand the unique demands that first responders and their families face. The long hours, critical incidents, chronic stress, and the challenge of balancing a demanding profession with personal relationships and family life.
My passion for mental health and peer support comes not only from the people I've served alongside, but also from my own journey. Like many first responders, there was a time when I believed strength meant pushing through difficult experiences and carrying the weight alone. Over time, I came to understand that true strength often comes from being willing to ask for help, do the hard work of self-reflection, and address the impact that years of service can have on our mental and emotional well-being.
Through my own therapeutic work and experiences with TMS treatment, I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of mental health and the value of having support during difficult seasons of life. Those experiences strengthened my commitment to helping reduce the stigma surrounding mental health within the first responder community and advocating for wellness as an essential part of the profession rather than an afterthought.
I am an active peer support team member, serve on the board of ATC 911, and remain deeply committed to creating conversations that encourage first responders to seek support before challenges become crises. I've seen firsthand how connection, community, and honest conversations can change lives.
I've lived the culture, experienced the demands of the job, and understand the realities that many first responders and their loved ones navigate every day. While every person's story is different, I believe there is tremendous value in connecting with others who understand the unique challenges of this profession and who are willing to walk alongside one another without judgment.
At Legacy Therapeutics, I facilitate peer support groups for first responders, creating a space where people can connect, share experiences, learn new skills, and support one another through the challenges of the job and life beyond it. My goal is to help my brothers and sisters in emergency response build stronger relationships, healthier coping strategies, and a legacy of wellness that extends beyond their careers and into the lives of the people they care about most.
